What is Distance Learning?

Open and Distance education system is a system where teachers and students need not to be present in the same place and at the same time. Distance Education is also known as distance learning where students go through- online lectures, virtual videos, etc. Day-by-day the scope and demand of Distance Education is increasing. People who are currently working or belong to remote and far areas, where quality education is not accessible and those who want to pursue higher education Distance Education is the best option for him.

Distance Education is inexpensive and provides opportunities to students to enhance their careers along with a qualification. With the advancement in technology, Distance Education includes e-learning or online learning. Distance Education is made in such a way that it serves the needs of working professionals. Today Distance Education is readily available on the internet through- online lectures, chatrooms and virtual classrooms. Due to the increasing demand, many reputed universities offer Distance Education in India from certificate level to PG degree level in a variety of disciplines from Business Management to Arts.

There is no age bar for applying in Distance Education. The minimum age required is 18 years. There is no maximum age. The admission procedure depends on the university you are applying in. Some call you for the Entrance test while others may give you direct admission.

Earlier, DEC (Distance Education Council) coordinated and maintained the standards of universities offering Distance education. In December 2012 all the responsibilities regarding Distance Education were transferred to UGC (University Grant Commission).

Distance Education System consists of IGNOU, State open universities, institutes and universities offering Distance Education includes correspondence course institute in conventional dual-mode university.

As per regulations all the universities in India must be accredited by NAAC. This means whichever the university you are pursuing or thinking to attend your education, the degree will by valid for other universities and recognized by major companies in and out of India.

·         Inexpensive- The fees of the Distance Education course is much less than the regular one.

·         Flexible- it is time flexible. One can learn according to his pace, speed and convenience.

·     Study material- study material is provided by the university one is pursuing his Distance Education Course through emails, videos or posts.

·   Opt from any place to any institution- One can go for any institute or college or university irrespective of place of its location.

Who can do it?
