WHAT IS BACHELOR OF LIBRARY AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY?

Bachelor of Library and Information Technology or BLIS or BLIsc is one undergraduate arts degree that comes under science and humanities. It includes different aspects of managing, maintaining and preserving information by using sources of education as well as information technology in the most secure way through computer networks. Librarians are trained on how to maintain library data and how to use e-books and how to save them. Eligibility for BLIS course is a minimum of Bachelor's degree with 50 percent of aggregate marks. 

It is so designed to give students understanding about the philosophy of library science, it principles, fundamental laws and social impact. The duration of the course is one year in this case but it may be different from institute to institute depending on their rules and regulations; the syllabus is divided into two semesters.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR BACHELOR OF LIBRARY AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY-

Candidates who possess a graduation degree from a recognized university with minimum of 50% - 60% mark.

The eligibility criteria mentioned above might vary depending on the policy of a university or institute in which a candidate is applying. Some may give direct admission, some may give you admission on the basis of your marks in Bachelors or some may conduct entrance exam.

The programme is available as both full and part time programme at universities.

JOB PROFILES IN BACHELOR OF LIBRARY AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

There is wide scope in Bachelors of Library and Information Technology. One can find jobs at news agencies, private/public libraries, photo/film library, university, institute, museum, library of radio station.

Job profile may include-

1.       Library Information Officer-

He manages the information to make it easily available to others. This profession normally works with electronic information such as online database content management system, digital resources and traditional library material.

2.       Library Assistant-

He is the one who lends and collect books, periodicals/videotapes, update patrons’ record on computer and process new material such as books, software, audiovisual material, etc.

3.       Assistant Director-

He assign tasks to staff at circulation desk, trains new staff in library.

4.       Librarian-

His daily responsibilities include organizing library material so as to make it accessible to others. They assemble and collect the database of library material, etc.

5.       Cataloguer-

Cataloguer manage catalogue of material at a university.

6.       Lecturer-

Those students who are interested in academic may become lecturers in college or university.

B.L.I.Sc., or B.Lib.Sc., Course from University of Delhi or any other University whose examination is recognized as equivalent to University of Delhi; and fulfills other conditions of eligibility for admission to BLISc., Course with 55% or above marks in aggregate; and

ulfils other conditions of eligibility for admission to B.L.I.Sc.

 

CATEGORY -II: DIRECT ADMISSION I.E. MINIMUM MARKS REQUIREMENT WITHOUT ENTRANCE TEST

B.L.I.Sc. or B.Lib.Sc. from the University of Delhi only with 60% or above marks in aggregate; and

Fulfills other conditions of eligibility for admission to B.L.I.Sc.
